The cloud computing landscape is undergoing a rapid transformation, with major providers such as Vercel, Cloudflare, and AWS aggressively recalibrating their strategies around AI. This evolution is a direct response to fundamental shifts in how developers build and what they create, increasingly leveraging AI agents for code generation, automation, and deploying sophisticated agentic applications. Vercel, for instance, has rebranded its core message to “agentic infrastructure,” positioning itself as the platform for anything built by agents. Similarly, Cloudflare emphasizes a “one platform for apps, agents and workforce” approach, while AWS highlights the ability to “move at the speed of agents.” This contrasts with providers like Netlify, which, while acknowledging AI, remains primarily focused on traditional web app hosting rather than the direct execution of AI agents in the cloud.

The second, and a significant new focus, is dedicated to running AI agents securely in the cloud. Solutions like Vercel’s Just Bash provide sandboxed environments, and Cloudflare’s Sandbox SDK facilitates isolated, throwaway compute environments for agentic tasks, mitigating security risks and offering controlled execution. The third pillar involves AI gateways, exemplified by Amazon Bedrock and Cloudflare’s AI Gateway. These services provide a unified API to access a diverse range of proprietary and open-weight large language models, offering consolidated billing, streamlined model switching, and enhanced control over data residency—a critical factor for enterprise adoption.
